WHAT DOES THEOLOGY OF WOMEN MEAN?

What did women do in the Bible? Who are the historical women who served in church leadership? Did the church fathers write off women as inferior to men? Can women be pastors, deacons, and elders in the Church? The theology of women is the study of in the Bible and in church history. It is a study of the orthodox religious practice, faith, and experience as it relates to women.

Over the years, the Church has spent much time and careful thought about theology. The Church developed a theology of the Trinity, a theology of salvation, a theology of baptism etc… Believers have not and do not always agree on all doctrine. But, sifting the Word for understanding on a theology of women helps the Church, men and women flourish.

Women represent over half the church in America and over 80 percent worldwide. I desire to help you develop a personal philosophy of women in church leadership? You may land in a different place than I do, and that’s ok.

Have you wondered what biblical and hermeneutical principles to use in your formation of theology? Have you used those same principles to develop your theology of women? Part of forming a theology of women is understanding and acknowledging the influences on your view of women—influences like your church tradition, the writings of the church fathers, your family background, views of leaders you admire, your past and current experience(s) with women in the church, etc.

Currently, this site is in the infancy stage. Soon it will provide tools and resources to help you sift the Word, from Genesis to Revelation, to facilitate the development of your personal philosophy on women in church leadership.

Soon this site will offer detail on the spectrum of orthodox views on the “role” of women, research on women in the Bible, and the historical function of women in the Church. Key resource information will be provided, such as book reviews, profiles on theologians, and articles on women and leadership. Be on the lookout for recommendations on blogs and podcasts on women in leadership.
