What people are saying about Theology of Women Academy
“The learner in me is grateful for your course. I absolutely feel more solid in my view on women from a biblical perspective.”
Cynthia Hester’s mastery of the material was exemplary. I highly recommend this course to anyone who seeks to understand how God values women and uses us for his Kingdom.
I highly recommend this course if you want to learn how to read the Bible and decide for yourself what the role of women in the church and home really is!
Thank you for this course. Every second spent reading or listening to the videos was worth the time. My biggest takeaway is, “We don’t know our church history.” TWA has helped me to be more understanding on this issue.
What Cynthia is teaching is so important. I’ve been in missions for 25 years and assumed my church tradition is what the Bible taught. Digging deep into the scriptures, and writing of the church fathers and others has been so important for me. As a ministry leader, I find myself needing to be able to state my beliefs and why I believe them.
The struggle to understand God’s design and plan for women has been a life-long pursuit. Your course has truly changed my life. I have been rescued from the bondage of the belief that God created women as lesser creatures. This stronghold has been broken by what I learned in this course.
This course has made me think more deeply about what I held to be true about women serving in the church. And, I appreciated the balance of ideas presented during the course.
You graciously navigate the issues of interpretation and ideology so that students understand how complementarians and egalitarians approach the text. And you presented the views clearly.
Hello there, I'm Cynthia!
Your educational guide for developing your theology of women. P.S. I don't teach my personal view.
Let's talk theology: Theology is the study of God through Word. A theology of women is another way to mean a biblical understanding of women's function in the home and church. And guess what? There's a spectrum of views.
The conversation about women and the church is not just a women's issue. It's a significant topic worldwide. What we believe about women influences male and female relationships. And, it matters for the church!
A bit about me:
I'm a former department story buyer, minister to women, and image consultant. I've always been a book nerd.
I LOVE white-sand beaches, international travel, and spending time with my son, daughters-in-law, and wee grands.
If I'm not teaching, I'm reading and writing, mentoring women leaders, knitting, or enjoying my flower garden.
Theology of Women Academy's educational roadmap is carefully crafted for you. Check out the modules:
A Spectrum of Christian Views: Traditionalist, Complementarians, & Egalitarians
The goal of Module 1 is to take a bird-eye look at the major viewpoints of complementarians and egalitarians. Don't worry, if you aren't familiar with those terms. I wasn't either when I first started studying this topic.
Biblical Texts, Part 1: 1 Corinthians 7; Genesis 1, 2, & 3
In this module, we will begin reviewing Bible scripture passages related to women, leadership, and the church. We will do this by looking at 1 Corinthians 7 and authority. And then we examine the creation and the fall in Genesis 1 through 3.
Public Ministry of Women in the Bible and Church
In this module, we walk through history looking for women doing public ministry in the Old Testament, the early church, and from the Middle Ages to the 20th century.
Biblical Texts, Part II: 1 Corinthians 11 & 14; Ephesians 5; Galatians 3
In this module, we examine a second set of Bible passages. We look closely at various interpretations of the Greek word kephale, which means "head" in English.
Jesus's and Paul's Interactions with Women
We walk through Scripture to see what we learn about Jesus's life and teachings and Paul's life and ministry that could inform our beliefs on women and their church ministry.
Biblical Texts, Part III: 1 Timothy 2, 3 & 5; Titus 1 & 2
In this module, we discuss 1 Timothy 2, the one verse in the Bible that speaks of limiting women's teaching. We also look at elders in 1 Tim 3 and widows in 1 Tim 5.

Nearly half of church women feel a relational disconnect with the church.
Many women feel that their gifts are undervalued within their worship assemblies.
The church is one body, consisting of many parts. When one part suffers, the other parts suffer too.
God designed His daughters and sons to reflect his image and goodness. Both are accountable for building up the body and telling his story.
So how do we, the church reclaim our daughters' worth?
What you believe about women matters! Let's reexamine the Scriptures to learn about women, their stories, and their gifts. Will you join me?
All my best,
